Current Job Opportunities

Biochemist (6-month fixed-term contract)  
We have a vacancy on a 6-month contract for a biochemist to join our enzyme assay development and compound screening group. The position will involve developing and running isolated enzyme assays for medium and high throughput screening of small molecule inhibitors, and characterising inhibitors in secondary assays for hit validation, rank-ordering (IC50) and mechanism-of-action studies. You will be involved in the interpretation and presentation of data at project meetings and will liaise with virologists, cell biologists and medicinal chemists as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support Arrow's drug discovery projects.


You will have a BSc in biochemistry (or similar) as a minimum, and at least 1 year's experience, gained within a pharmaceutical environment, of developing enzyme assays for small molecule inhibitor screening using standard techniques and technologies e.g. absorbance, fluorescence, etc.


Chemo-Informatics Scientist 21/04/2008
Arrow Therapeutics is a wholly-owned subsidiary of AstraZeneca, focused primarily on the discovery and development of novel antiviral therapies. Located in central London,  we specialise in small molecule drugs and pride ourselves on our in-house research and clinical development expertise. Our pipeline includes programmes on Hepatitis C and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), with our lead programmes currently in Phase I and II clinical trials.

As a member of our Medicinal Chemistry group, you will have a key role in the design, implementation and support of Arrow's drug discovery informatics environment. With an enthusiasm for learning new computational techniques, you will work closely with team members from other disciplines to introduce tools and applications for the interrogation of project data. Key application areas will include implementation of databases to store diverse sources of discovery project data, and state-of-the-art tools to query, manipulate and identify trends in this data, with a clear focus on the underlying chemistry. You will have experience of both windows and linux platforms, together with an excellent working knowledge of several of the following areas: design and management of relational databases; Structured Query Language (SQL); query/reporting tools; data pipelining; data visualisation and analysis. Knowledge of at least one of the following scripting/ programming languages is essential: perl, python, java. A background in chemistry and previous experience of commercial chemoinformatics software would be a distinct advantage.
