Ken Powell - Head of Arrow

Ken Powell - CEO

With over 30 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry and academia in both the US and UK, Ken’s previous posts have included Head of Antiviral Research and Head of Biology at the Wellcome Foundation Ltd.

He was Professor of Virology and Cell Biology at the Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research (UCL) where he was also deputy director from 1996 to 2000. During his time at WIBR Ken set up three other biotechnology companies (including Inpharmatica and Ark Therapeutics) in addition to Arrow Therapeutics. Ken has been Arrow's CEO since 1998 (full time since 2000).

 

Stuart Cockerill - Research Director

Stuart Cockerill - Research Director Stuart joined Arrow from GlaxoSmithKline where he was one of the senior Group Leaders in Medicinal Chemistry. At GSK he had responsibility for Oncology and Inflammatory Disease projects with a particular focus on kinase inhibitors. In GSK’s heritage company The Wellcome Foundation Stuart had lead projects in the Antiviral and Pesticide areas. Stuart trained with leading academic organic chemists in both the UK and USA. He is an inventor on numerous patents and has seen his projects go from research to the market place.
 

Sue Grieve - Director of Development and Legal

Sue Grieve - Director of Development and Legal Sue is a scientist and a qualified lawyer with extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry including eight years as an assessor at the Medicines Control Agency. She has managed drug development projects from research to marketing authorization in large (Wellcome and Glaxo Wellcome) and small companies (Vernalis). She joined Arrow in May 2001 from the law firm Baker and McKenzie.
 

Dereck Tait - Chief Medical Officer

Sue Grieve - Director of Development and Legal With extensive experience in clinical research developed over 11 years in the pharmaceutical industry, Dereck joined Arrow in November 2006 as Chief Medical Officer. Previously Dereck was Vice President of Clinical Research at Idenix (Cambridge, MA) and before that held clinical positions of increasing seniority at The Wellcome Foundation, GlaxoWellcome and GlaxoSmithkline. Originally trained as a clinical virologist, he also spent some years as a hospital-based registar in South Africa and the UK. Dereck brings international clinical and regulatory expertise to Arrow, as well as a proven track record in the antviral therapeutic area.

Dr Jeremy Stables
UK East, Franchise Director of 'Mad Science' - an organisation dedicated to interesting young people in science. www.madscience.org. Previously Head of Project Management at Arrow from 1999 to 2005, Jeremy's experience includes a successful career in major pharma at the Wellcome Foundation and GSK.

Professor Ian Charles
Professor of Molecular Biology at University College London. Previous to being Chief Scientific Officer at Arrow from 1999 to 2005, Ian's posts have included Head of Molecular Biology at the Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research and Head of Molecular Pharmacology at the Wellcome Foundation.

Professor Alastair Hawkins
Professor of Molecular Genetics at the University of Newcastle, (an expert on the structure and function of microbial enzymes). Arrow has a laboratory at Newcastle where its target proteins are expressed and purified.

Professor Duncan Maskell
Marks & Spencer Professor of Farm Animal Health, Food Science and Food Safety at the Veterinary School of the University of Cambridge.

Dr David Stammers
Consultant to Arrow and Medical Research Council Senior Fellow at the University of Oxford. He has extensive pharmaceutical industry experience applying structural biological information to the design of novel drugs. Arrow conducts its X-ray crystallography work with Dr Stammers' laboratory in Oxford.
