BOARD OF DIRECTORSDavid Chiswell, OBE – Non-Executive ChairmanUntil recently Chairman of the BioIndustry Association (BIA), David was a founder of Cambridge Antibody Technology (CAT) - one of the leading European biotechnology companies, acquired by AstraZeneca in May 2006 for $1.32 billion. He was responsible for operational management at CAT from 1990 to 2002 and was CEO from 1996 to 2002. Since leaving CAT, David has been focusing on the development of early stage private biotechnology companies. He is the Executive Chairman of Nabriva and Chairman of Daniolabs and Sosei. In addition David is an advisor to a number of private equity funds including Nomura private equity, TTP Ventures and BioComm. David’s prior experience includes Amersham International plc, as well as research posts at Medical Research Council; Institute of Virology, Glasgow; Dept Immunology and Microbiology, UCLA; and Imperial Cancer Research Fund, London. David Altschuler – Non-Executive DirectorDavid joined Marks and Spencer plc as Group Treasurer in 1977. In 1980 he jointly founded National Leasing & Finance Co., a specialist asset financing group, and subsequently founded the Capricorn Science Park in Cape Town, South Africa. In addition to Arrow, David was closely involved in the setting up and funding of biotechnology company Inpharmatica Ltd. David is also a director/trustee of a number of non-governmental organisations, including the National Family & Parenting Institute, the Nicro UK Trust, the New Israel Fund Ltd., and the School of Government & Policy at Tel-Aviv University. He is the chairman of the board of trustees of the One to One Children's Fund, and the PATA (Paediatric Aids Treatment for Africa) Initiative, which he co-founded. Joël Besse – Non Executive DirectorJoël Besse is a Senior Partner in the life sciences sector and has worked with Atlas Venture since 1995. Previously, Joël served as an auditor at Arthur Andersen and at Crédit Lyonnais in Paris. He began his career in venture capital in 1991 with SED Ventures, a firm specializing in international life sciences investments. In addition to Arrow, Joël serves on the Board of Newron Pharmaceuticals, Prestwick Pharmaceuticals, Shogoo Pharmaceuticals KK, Sporever, U3 Pharma and Xytis. Other key investments include Actelion Pharmaceuticals, Axovan, Novuspharma, Nitec Pharmaceuticals, Fibrex Medical and Modex. Joël holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Toulouse and graduated from Ecole Nationale Supérieure de I'Aéronautique et de l'Espace. Frank Bulens – Non-Executive DirectorFrank represents GIMV, the Belgian specialist Life Sciences VC. In addition to Arrow, he is a Director of several portfolio companies including Ablynx, Inpharmatica, Innate Pharma, Diatos and Ceres. Frank has also been or still is involved with other investments including Neurotech, Fovea, Nereus Pharmaceuticals, Aclara (merged with Virologic, now called Monogram), Memory Pharmaceuticals and X-Ceptor. Prior to joining GIMV in 1998, Frank completed his PhD at the University Leuven, Belgium, and became a senior scientific advisor at the IWT, a Flemish governmental research fund. Alexandra Goll – Non-Executive DirectorAlexandra represents TVM Capital GmbH and has been responsible for more than 10 TVM investments since she joined the company in early 1998, including Actelion and Idenix Pharmaceuticals. In addition to Arrow, Alexandra currently serves on the Board of Addex Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Biovertis AG, Newron Pharmaceuticals SpA, Pharmasset Inc, and Wilex AG. Prior to her affiliation with TVM, Alexandra was the Global Business Leader for HIV and CMV at Roche Ltd in Basel and was responsible for strategic marketing and business development for Virology. She holds a degree in pharmacy from the Free University of Berlin, and wrote her doctoral dissertation in natural sciences at Philipps University of Marburg. She was honoured with a post-doctoral position supported by the Boehringer-Ingelheim Foundation for fundamental research in medicine. Kenneth Powell – Chief Executive OfficerWith over 30 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry and academia in both the US and UK, Ken’s previous posts have included Head of Antiviral Research and Head of Biology at the Wellcome Foundation Ltd. He was Professor of Virology and Cell Biology at the Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research (UCL) where he was also deputy director from 1996 to 2000. He has published extensively on herpes viruses, HIV and other viruses including RSV. During his time at WIBR Ken set up three other biotechnology companies (including Inpharmatica and Ark Therapeutics) in addition to Arrow Therapeutics. Ken has been Arrow’s CEO since 1998 (full time since 2000). Walter Wenninger – Non-Executive DirectorWalter is 3i’s nominated Director. He was a member of the Management Board of Bayer AG until 2000 where he was responsible for Bayer´s healthcare operations. Currently he is a member of the Executive Committee of the Robert Koch Foundation and the German Cardiac Research Foundation and a Member of the Board of Trustees of the German Cancer Reseach Center. He holds supervisory board positions with Paion AG, Aachen (Chairman), Epidauros AG, Bernried, Axiogenesis AG and VEMAG AG. Walter has a PhD in veterinary medicine and an MBA, both from Munich University. |
